3-days itinerary in Ore Mountains

Explore the Ore Mountains Regions, which lays at the German – Czech border. Within the 3 days you will have the possibility to sightsee a beautiful historic spa town, visit castle or hike a mountain. Isn’t it amazing?

Day 1: Jáchymov and Mining Heritage

  • Explore Jáchymov: Start your day in the charming spa town of Jáchymov. Stroll through its historic streets and admire the architecture.
  • Jáchymovské peklo Trail: Embark on the 8.5 km easy trail suitable for buggies and push bikes. This educative trail takes you through the Uran mines, former prison camps, and showcases the natural beauty of the Ore Mountains. Don’t miss the Svornost mine, the oldest active mining site in Europe.
  • Go for a coffee and in the evening visit the Spa: Visit the renowned Radon spa in Jáchymov. Experience the healing effects of radon water, which has been used here for over 100 years.

Day 2: Klínovec and Karlovy Vary

  • Klínovec: Hike to the top of Klínovec (1244 m), the highest peak in the Ore Mountains. Enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including Děčínský Sněžník, Lužické hory, and more.
  • Trip to Karlovy Vary: Drive to the nearby spa town of Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad). Explore the elegant colonnades, taste the mineral springs, and admire the neo-Renaissance architecture.
  • Jan Becher Museum: Learn about the famous Becherovka herbal liqueur at the Jan Becher Museum.

Day 3: Loket and Königsmühle

  • Loket: Visit the Loket Castle standing on a massive rock. Explore its Gothic architecture and enjoy the views of the Ohře River. The historic center of Loket is well-preserved and protected as an urban monument zone.
  • Königsmühle: In the middle of nowhere, somewhere in the fields, around 2 kilometers from Loučná pod Klínovcem lays this unique place that will shift you magically to LoTRo scenery. It’s the remains of the once existing settlement. It’s pretty dark and creepy, especially if you choose to go here in the evening. Only a few ruins are left from the 6 buildings that were here. In overall, it was an interesting throw back to the history and a pretty nice walk.

Where to stay?

We stayed in Loucna pod Klinovcem at a small apartment hosted by Apartments Klinovec. It was cosy and withing walking distance from Klinovec and Königsmühle. To the other locations we visited by car. It was cheaper to stay in the mountains than in Karlovy Vary for example.
