Peschiera del Garda and camping Bella Italia

During summer we spent several days in the campsite by the lake Garda called Bella Italia. The camping is situated in a small town Peschiera del Garda, which turned out to be the perfect base — small enough to feel cozy, but lively enough to keep us entertained in the evenings. The close proximity to a supermarket is an additional advantage if someone is planning to cook.

CAMPSITE BELLA ITALIA

The camping area is huge—so huge that you’d need a few days just to explore every corner of it. It offers a large water park with five swimming pools and several water slides. Sports facilities include table tennis and a multi‑purpose field for football, volleyball, and basketball. The holiday resort also provides various shows and entertainment for kids.

We arrived at the beginning of July, and it was completely booked, which you could definitely feel at the pools. The accommodation options there is extensive: apartments, bungalows, or empty spots for tents. The apartments and bungalows are equipped with a kitchenette and a cosy living area.

In addition, Bella Italia Camping has a total of three restaurants, including a traditional pizzeria. There is also a mini‑market, souvenir shops, an ice cream shop, and a bar with a terrace overlooking the lake. Basically, you don’t have to leave the campsite at all—everything you need is right there.

I enjoyed our stay there, although my kids rate swimming pools and slides 5 out of 10, first because of the crowds and second the slides were for smaller kids.

PRO TIP: Don’t forget your swimming cap, it is mandatory to enter one of the pools.

GARDA LAKE

One of my favorite moments there to sit by the water and watch boats glide past. Lake Garda has a way of slowing you down — the mountains in the distance, the shimmering surface, the gentle breeze. From Peschiera, ferries run frequently, so it is easy to hop around without needing the car.

PESCHIERA DEL GARDA

Peschiera del Garda is a small town located just 15 minutes on foot from the camping. We set up for an evening trip to Peschiera del Garda with no real plan — just the idea of wandering through the old town and finding a good pizzeria along the way. As the sun began to set, the whole place slipped into that golden hour glow, the kind that makes every corner look a little more magical. The canals were calm, reflecting the pastel houses and the old Venetian walls. We crossed one of the small bridges and followed the narrow streets deeper into the historic center. The old town felt lively but never overwhelming.

Eventually, we reached a pizzeria and enjoyed the food.

PRO TIP: For each order, you will have to pay 2 EUR per person for a service. Sometimes you’ll receive some bread an olive, grissini or other kind of couvert, but sometimes there’s nothing just the cost.

DAY TRIP TO SIRMIONE

Sirmione is located 15 minutes by car, or around an hour by bike from Peschiera. We chose the bike as a half-day trip after lunch. The city again is pretty small, one afternoon is enough if you’re not planning to enter any spas or museums and just wander around the narrow streets of the town. DAY TRIP TO VERONA

You can take a train to Verona, which takes around 50 minutes to arrive to the bustling city of Verona. Reserve a whole day to discover the House of Juliette, the Arena and beautiful squares. ARE YOU READY?

If we had more time, we’d probably go around the Garda lake. Kids are not big enough to cover this distance by bike, so we’d probably choose car and visit among others Riva del Garda and Limone. I hope you’re feeling that Italian vibe now.
