Interlaken in winter
Interlaken, traditional resort town, built in a valley, between two lakes: Thun and Brienz, wasn’t supposed to be this quiet. I arrived expecting the usual—cafés humming, souvenir shops spilling light onto the streets, and most of all people. Instead, winter had pressed the pause button. Doors were locked, terraces empty, and the town felt like it had decided to take a long, slow breath.
But honestly… it had its charm.
WALKING
With nothing “to do,” I ended up doing exactly what Interlaken is best for: walking. I wandered through the still, empty streets. Eventually I made my way to the lake. Even in winter, Lake Thun has this deep, moody blue that feels alive. The cold air sharpened everything—the colors, the silence, even my thoughts. There were no crowds, no boats, no noise. Just the water, the mountains, and that soft winter light that makes everything look a little more dramatic.
I had a short break by the lake, capturing the views. The scenery alone is enough to fill an entire day. Maybe even more. Good, I had my snack, otherwise, I’d end up empty handed.

PARAGLIDING
On my way back to the city, I noticed colorful kites in the sky. It turned out paragliding is one of the most popular adrenaline activities in that region. So I stopped for a moment, wondering if I ever dare to try this type of “sport”. It would definitely be an amazing feeling to see Interlaken from a bird’s-eye view.

WATER SPORTS
I can only imagine that during summer, renting a boat is also a fantastic way to these beautiful views. Turquoise lakes are perfect for boat cruises, kayaking, and lakeside walks.

CLOSEBY
Not far away, you can visit St. Beatus Caves. This unique attraction is open all year round, the tour takes approximately 60 minutes. But this is not just the regular corridor system. This is a whole experience, where you can even book a culinary event with a spectacular view. don’t forget to reserve in advance. They do also warn that the parking space has low capacity, so it’s recommended to use public transport.
